It took about 10 months and countless hours of PR babble-speak to finally find out the answer.
Hope you enjoy it.

Is it just me or does $1500 every 231,000 miles for batteries sound fine? Less than an engine or transmission rebuild and it lasted longer than a lot of engines and transmissions. If the prius gets 45 MPG, and another car you could have had gets 30 mpg, and gas is $3 a gallon, then you would have spent $21,300 in the 30mpg car, and 15,400 in the prius. A savings of 5900 which helps offset that $1500 repair. The batteries saved you $4400 in that time.

Well that's just a hybrid though. Of course it is only $1500, it is a smaller battery pack. Doing the same cost analysis versus the plug in Prius or something like a Tesla might not result in the same thing.

Hmmm, good point. Your title is a little misleading then. The life and cycling of a purely electric vehicle should be different for the batteries than the Hybrid. Worse than a Hybrid I’d wager. But then again, you have to compare the price of electricity versus burning gas for all those miles to see the new offset. And $21,300 is a lot of room for offset.

Hybrid batteries typically go through more charge/discharge cycles due to their small size and on board charge capabilities.

Whoops thought you were OP.

Hmmm, so maybe they’d last even longer then? I really hope. I really want to like owning an electric car since I think it’s going to happen at some point.

I’ve replaced some B-class (made by Tesla) and Smart electric batteries and the cost was well over $20k each. But those were under warranty, and have long warranties (ten years IIRC, but could be wrong).
